Cedar House works with orphaned and vulnerable children in Durban, South Africa since 2008. While our ultimate goal is to build a home for children, we have embarked on several other projects:

Assist children with homework
Initially, a team of volunteers would assist with remedial work and homework twice a week. Since 2023 to present that has been bumped up to four times a week. Social workers have reported that the children’s school performance has steadily improved over time.

First Aid Training
A qualified health and safety officer from our team trained staff and caregivers in basic life saving skills in the case of an emergency.

Hosting of children at team member homes
Weekends and school holidays can be an especially depressing and lonely time for OVCs. Many children would integrate seamlessly into our family structures across ethnicities, giving them a glimpse of what healthy family life should look like. This would sometimes create a permanent bond even if the families were unable to adopt or foster them.

School lunches for children
Many children struggle with concentration at school because of hunger. We were able to alleviate that struggle by provide lunch packs on a regular basis.

Street collections
Volunteer teams would be stationed at local malls for fund raising.

Social Events

Christmas Parties are major events at Cedar House. This is a time for fun and games, gifts and clothing, food and dance with music, jumping castles and clown shows.
Visits to the Durban Aquarium and park outings.

Project Heritage
A value based program that provides children with emotional and spiritual support and encouragement in an exciting and interactive way
 

Weekly distribution of bread and cakes
A local patisserie would donate their pastries, bread and cakes as a tasty treat for the children every week.
